Science Week

Professor Bubbles sent us a letter asking us to explore and  investigate bubbles!

We made bubble wands using different shapes like hearts, triangles, squares and then used them to blow bubbles. Did we blow heart shaped bubbles? Take a look at the photos.

The children all really enjoyed themselves after a busy week of tests. The adults really enjoyed themselves too.

Library Visit

Year 2 finally made it to the library to belatedly celebrate World Book Day.

The children loved the story the librarian chose to read. Ask your child what it was.

The children then made a map of the story. Take a look at some of our work.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

I hope your child has told you all about our visit to the Wildlife park.

Do you know what animals we saw and what was their favourite part of the day?

We had a fantastic day and here is a picture of us making a lion’s roar.

( Did you know a lion’s roar can be heard 5 miles away!)

Sponsored spelling test

Thank yo to everyone who put in the extra effort to learn your spellings last week. Almost all the children either got full marks or at least  improved their score on previous weeks.

Well done – out of a possible payment of £14 I was able to donate £12.90 to our selected charity World Wildlife Fund. That was 129 spellings spelt correctly. Amazing!

Kenya Day

Year 2 have spent the day learning about the people and culture of Kenya.

In the morning the children were involved in various art activities. We looked at the colours and patterns in the landscapes of Kenya and used these colours and shapes to make patterns on African quilts, Maasai necklaces and bracelets.

In the afternoon we dressed as Maasai warriors and  attempted to learn the Maasai jumping dance. We also learnt a song that is sung in many parts of Africa – Kye Kye Kule.

Take a look at the photos and listen to the song.

(We also tasted banana bread and mango juice!)

Spelling test for charity

We have been learning about animals in Africa and know that some animals are ‘critically endangered’.

We took a class vote to decide which animal charity to support.

I will donate 10p per correct spelling so if every child in the class gets all their 5 spellings correct I will donate £14 to the chosen charity.

Look at the block graph to see which animal charity got the most votes.
